Henry R. Kennedy - Executive Director
Henry Kennedy has served as Executive Director at Kieve since 1991 and is the third generation of his family at the helm. Henry graduated from Colby College in 1980 then worked as a Certified Public Accountant in California and Portland, Maine. His non-profit experience includes 2 terms elected to the Cumberland, Maine school board, member of the Colby College Board of Overseers, appointment to the Great Ponds Taskforce by Governor King, past president of the Maine Youth Camping Association, past member of Allagash Wilderness Waterway advisory committee, founding board member of the Family Ice Center in Falmouth, Maine, member of Equity in Education taskforce for Governor Baldacci, and member of Maine Huts and Trails board.

He was a Kieve camper from 1967 through 1972 and a counselor from 1973-1980. He lives in Cumberland and Nobleboro, Maine with his wife, B.J., and their 2 children, Sam and Blair.

Kirstie A. Truluck - Wavus Camp for Girls Director
Kirstie joined the Kieve-Wavus family in 2010 when her youngest daughter attended Junior Wavus and fell in love with summer camp. Kirstie joined the Kieve-Wavus Education, Inc. Advisory Board in 2013 to further serve the organization. She has spent the last twenty-five years teaching elementary, middle and high school children both inside and outside of the classroom. Since earning her Master’s degree in education, Kirstie has served as a master teacher and lead administrator at the Hyde School, an independent boarding school in Bath, ME. In addition to her work with young children and adolescents in schools, Kirstie has run wilderness trips in the woods and on the waters of Maine for schools and camps, managed ropes courses, been a bunk counselor for Tanglewood 4-H Camps and coached youth sports for the Bath Recreation Department. She resides in Bath, ME with her husband Rich and her daughters Merrill and Logan.

Joy Bengtson - Executive Assistant
Joy joins the K-W team to share her experience in non-profit fundraising; secondary and graduate level development and alumni relations. She brings a high level of energy and professionalism to the position, and enjoys connecting with people... especially those that share her deep love of the outdoors. Joy earned her degree in Environmental Management from Harvard University. Joy lives in Pittston, ME with her partner Matt. She loves spending time hiking, Nordic skiing, traveling, tending her vegetable garden, cooking elaborate meals, spending time with family and playing with her rescue Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Marfa.

Kate Adair - Assistant Director
Kate joined the Wavus staff in 2010 as a Counselor and was a Tripping Assistant from 2012-2013. In 2014, she was an Assistant Director for the Wilderness Tripping program. She also spent a year as an educator at The Leadership School from 2011-2012. Kate is a graduate of Gettysburg College and currently teaches Middle School Social Studies and coaches the varsity cross-country and track teams at McDonogh School in Baltimore, Maryland. Kate is excited to be back for her sixth summer at Wavus!

Megan Taft - Wilderness Tripping Director
Megan found her way to Kieve in 2002 after completing her undergraduate degree at the University of New Hampshire in Outdoor Experiential Education. From 2002-2005 she served as an educator and Residential Director for The Leadership School (TLS). Following her work with TLS, Megan was the Director of Adventure Education for a small boarding school nestled in the foothills of the White Mountains and spent her summers leading backpacking, canoeing and bike trips throughout Maine and New Hampshire. Determined to dig further into her passion for teaching, Megan completed a Masters of Education at the University of Massachusetts in Social Justice Education. Her combination of residential program experience and diversity education led her to the field of Student Development, where she has had opportunities to work with several colleges and universities in areas of diversity training and education, student leadership development, and environmental education. Megan rejoined the Kieve Wavus community in 2014 and lives with her partner Sara and their daughter Adley in Alna.

Jess Anderson - KW Health Care Manager
Originally from the Adirondack region of New York State, Jess began working at Kieve in 1999 while attending Hamilton College. After graduating in 2002, Jess became the Kieve Infirmary Director in the summers while teaching the rest of the year at Marianapolis Preparatory School in Connecticut. In 2010 Jess, along with her husband Reid, fulfilled their lifelong dream of moving to Maine full time. Jess is an EMT, Red Cross Instructor and also volunteers in a local church. She loves her current roles as The Leadership School Program Director and KW Health Care Manager, having the opportunity to appreciate the big picture impact of the TLS experience on schools and the everyday details of student and camper wellbeing. Jess, Reid, and their son Peter live in nearby Dresden, ME during the year and on site at Kieve during the summer.

Samantha Copland - Assistant Director Challenge Course
Sam is from Uxbridge, Massachusetts. She graduated from Bowdoin College in 2014 with a BA in Psychology and Gender & Womens Studies and a minor in education. Sam started working with Kieve-Wavus in August 2014 at the Leadership School, where she was very excited to combine her passion of working with students with her love of being outdoors. She has been working at summer camps in Maine for the past four summers, directed the Ropes Course at Wavus in 2015, the CIT program in 2016 and is back leading Ropes this summer. In her free time, Sam can be found running, climbing, cooking or exploring Maine with her friends. She is also a Registered Maine Guide.

Mims Pace - Assistant Wilderness Tripping Director
Mary Elizabeth, or Mims, hails from Atlanta, Georgia. A Spring 2013 graduate from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, where she studied Engineering, Mims comes to Kieve-Wavus with years of tripping experience gained in the employ of Moondance Adventures. She loves the South, country music, dogs, and bicycles, and can usually be found with a camera in hand. Mims started with the Leadership School in the fall of 2013, was one of our KW West trip leaders in 2014, and a co-Assistant Director for the CIT program in 2015.

Mac Peters - Assistant Wilderness Tripping Director
Mac comes from Sodus, NY and joined the Wavus staff as a counselor in 2012. She attended Hobart & William Smith Colleges and graduated in 2015 with a BS in Environmental Studies and a minor in Geology. Mac spent a semester abroad in Ecuador and Peru as well as doing an internship in Outdoor Education in Wales during the summer of 2014. Mac started working at the Leadership School in 2015 and we are please to have her bring her outdoor and youth mentoring experience to the Trip Shack at Wavus this summer.

Sarah Adelberg - Assistant Director of Infirmary
Sarah looks forward to her second year of co-running the Wavus Infirmary. Though currently certified as a Wilderness First Responder and EMT, she has a BA from UMaine in Jazz & Contemporary Music and played professionally for a decade. Sarah enjoys ultrarunning, study of medicine and frequent campfires.

Taylor Boucher - Environmental Educator
Taylor was born and raised in Portland, Maine. She was a camper for two years as well as a Wavus Counselor for the past two summers. She studied Biology and Environmental Studies at Earlham College where she found passions for many things, such as environmental justice and conservation. She loves adventuring outside, the ocean and traveling near and far. Taylor is so excited to be living back in Maine and exploring her passions of experiential education at TLS where she started in the fall of 2015. She is excited to welcome campers to Hog Island this summer.

Scott Henry - Director of Facilities - Wavus
Scott has worked for Kieve-Wavus since 1995 and has spent time caring for both of the organization’s properties. He now insures that the physical plant at Wavus is maintained and improved year round. He earned his BS degree in Environmental Sciences from SUNY at Syracuse. In his time off Scott, enjoys hunting and fishing in both Maine and Canada. Scott shares his affection for Wavus with his wife Robyn, son John and daughter Josey who is a Wavus girl in every way.

Russ Williams - Development & Communications Director
In addition to being the Development & Communications Director, Russ coordinates all the the program brochures, newsletters and website updates. For Boys Camp specifically, he oversees the design and implementation of the Camper Connection, a very popular website function, updated daily during camp and that allows parents to stay updated on some of the happenings around camp and view thousands of camper pictures all year round. Russ is also the 9/11 & Family Camp Director.

Betsy Lee - Camp Staff & Store Administrator
Betsy joined us after six years as the Administrative Assistant for The Wavus Foundation and brought a wealth of experience in the areas of development, accounting and event planning. Betsy manages the Camp Store on both campuses and is the administrator for the Summer Camp Staff. Betsy is a graduate of the University of Maine at Orono with a degree in Animal Medical Sciences. Her two daughters, Anna-Marie and Laura are former Wavus Campers and Staff members.

Bill Chapman - Snow Goose III Captain
Bill holds a Coast Guard boat license and has worked as a commercial fisherman for more than twenty years. He brings a wide range of experiences and talents to Kieve all year long. He has always had a mechanical bent, working as a maintenance mechanic in a local hospital while attending Northeastern University. He is a jack of all trades, able to handle a wide variety of projects on his own. In the past he has served as a law-enforcement officer in Washington, D.C., worked with Project Leap in Massachusetts , and overseen a number of properties in Coastal Maine. Bill is also a licensed Maine Guide, specializing in hunting expeditions both for upland birds and Sea Ducks.

Jenny Hutz - Assistant Director Waterfront
Jenny is from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and a 2016 graduate from Temple University with a Bachelors Degree in Communications Studies. This is her third year at Wavus and we are pleased to have her back overseeing our Waterfront! She loves hiking and taking on new adventures!
