Field Studies at the Bridge Year offer the student researcher a chance to gather data off campus and in real world contexts. Field Studies support student research and progress toward Project objectives by providing opportunities for students to access a broad array of experts around the state and to study in a variety of communities and ecosystems, lending depth and variability to project research and reporting. Student field studies will encompass:
Ecology: observation and sampling
Society: ethnography focused on culture (participant observation and interview)
Economy: ethnography focused on logic of economic systems (participant observation and interview)
Field Studies will be local, regional and national and will couple project research with social and physical challenges ranging from extensive canoe based travel and hiking to working in groups to collect, analyze and reflect on data.
