Artist John Whalley creates Forever Kieve drawing

April 14, 2007

Nationally recognized artist John Whalley presents his beautiful "Forever Kieve" drawing to Dick & Henry Kennedy. The drawing represents the view from the waterfront looking back toward the new bath houses and cabins built as part of the campus masterplan. Whalley who lives in Damariscotta Mills in the recently renovated "Redman?s Hall" at the swimming hole, specializes in realist drawings using a variety of media including oil, egg tempera, watercolor, and graphite.
After considering a career in architecture, Whalley pursued formal art training at the Rhode Island School of Design where he majored in illustration and minored in drawing and painting. Over the years, Whalley has exhibited widely in the museums of the Rhode Island School of Design, Purdue University, The University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire, and University of Florida. Exhibitions of his work have also included the Sheldon Swope Museum of Art, DeLand Museum of Art, The Fort Lauderdale Museum of Art, South Bend Regional Museum of Art, the Tampa Museum of Art and The Coral Springs Museum of Art. In 2001, the Georgia Museum of Art hosted a major retrospective of Whalley?s drawings, and paintings, and in 2006 his solo exhibit "In New Light" was held at The Coral Springs Museum of Art in Florida, and Greenhut Galleries in Portland, Maine.
John?s studio in Damariscotta Mills is owned by our own Kieve & Wavus family Michael & Janet McKee. Their son Turney is going on his 5th year at Kieve and daughter Georgia attending Wavus for her 2nd year. John is also not a stranger to non-profits having volunteered at an orphanage in Brazil from 1991 through 2003. His activities included teaching art at this newly-established orphanage that serves some of the thousands of ?throwaway children? of the streets in that country. He appreciates all that KieveWavus does for kids from Maine and beyond. It has been a pleasure working with John on this project and we really appreciate this incredible gift to Kieve. Contact John at (207) 563-2005 or john@johnwhalley.com to make an appointment to see his beautiful work. Also check out his website gallery at www.johnwhalley.com.
