Camper Connection

Daily Program & Activities

A typical in-camp day includes reveille at 7:45, flag raising, breakfast at 8:00, camp duties (which provide each girl with the opportunity to complete a simple task), two cabin activity periods, a general swim at 11:30, free time, lunch at 12:30, an hour of rest and relaxation, two free choice activity periods, a swim at 4:30, free time, supper at 6:00, games, activities, skits or a campfire, followed by the lowering of the flag and evening song. "Lights out" is usually at 9:00-9:30 for the younger girls and 9:30-10:00 for the older ones.

On Sundays, the pace is somewhat slower. In the morning we have a thorough housecleaning, "tub," and inspection. Midmorning, campers and counselors plan and present an informal, inspirational service; the outdoor chapel service is non-denominational, incorporating words and music from many traditions. In addition, Roman Catholics can attend mass in town Saturday evening. We welcome parents and visitors for our chapel service and for the luncheon at noon. After lunch we resume a normal daily schedule.

This routine is often varied by activities such as trips to the beach, excursions on Muscongus Bay on one of the camp’s ocean-going boats, a day trip up Mt. Battie in Camden, or special events planned by the "goddess-of-the-day."

In-Camp Activities

While in camp, campers have the option of trying a wide variety of activities. Wavus is not a highly structured environment; however, in the mornings campers are encouraged to try things that they may not have experienced before. During the afternoons they have greater latitude to select activities they particularly enjoy.

Wavus activities include:

Aqua Zip
Archery
Art
Baseball
Basketball
Bouldering Wall
Canoeing
Cooking
Camp craft
Drama
Environmental Discovery
Fishing
Jewelry
Lake Sailing

Ocean Fishing and Sailing

Tennis
Ultimate Frisbee
Volley Ball

Community service projects
Campers contribute to worthy community projects such as trail clearing or building needed structures while learning new skills and making friends. Some may hammer a nail or swing an ax for the first time. Others may learn how to use a hand saw. All learn more about themselves and the value of community leadership.

Ropes course
All girls will have an opportunity to challenge themselves on the low and high ropes course, setting goals, working with others, and making connections to other life opportunities. All elements are challenge by choice.

Wavus Medals Program
The Wavus Medal program is a progressive achievement program, allowing each camper to master skills at his or her own pace. We offer campers the opportunity to challenge themselves, learn self-reliance and gain a true sense of accomplishment. Campers are awarded a “W” bronze, silver and gold medal upon successful accomplishments.
