An exciting collaboration with Audubon on Hog IslandLast summer Kieve-Wavus piloted a collaboration with The Audubon Society on its renowned Hog Island which went extremely well for both organizations. This summer our plan is to work together even more and hope to formalize a long term relationship. Kieve-Wavus' Hog Island program is an introduction to the wilderness component of our summer program, often including an overnight primer trip. We will teach Leave No Trace camping and help our participants tune their eyes and ears to the natural world around them. There is incredible natural beauty around Muscongus Bay with the tidal zone, the Maine granite, the vegetation, trail systems, and the wildlife that inhabit the island. For decades Audubon's naturalists have helped young people and adults learn more about their surroundings so that we all can better appreciate them and take care of our world for future generations to enjoy. Together with Audubon laboratory staff, we hope to imbue participants with a thirst and passion for learning about the coastal wildlife and ecosystems in Maine and beyond.
